An offer C.C. Sabathia can’t refuse?
The “godfather” Peter Abraham described the situation perfectly in a post earlier today:
Here is the message the Yankees are sending the rest of baseball:
Don’t. Even. Try.
Sabathia indicated several weeks ago that he does not plan to make this a drawn-out process. The Yankees, by their actions today, are in full agreement.
I gotta say if there’s two things I admire in this world it’s: (1) moxie, and (2) locking stuff up. The Yankees don’t want to mess around. They want their new ace and unless Sabathia really wants to go out west, this will be probably be resolved in the not too distant future.
As a Mets fan, I’m not devastated by this news at all, primarily because any rumors linking the Mets with Sabathia were a delusion. It’s always a risk giving a starting pitcher a long term (5+ year) deal. Having two starters with those kinds of contracts is an astronomically huge gamble. Besides, it’s always fun hearing people complain of how much money the Yankees spend (even though the Mets spend an incredible amount too).
The Yankees could use an ace along side Joba Chamberlain. Together, those two in short playoff series would be downright scary.

Don’t forget about my good friend Chien-Ming Wang
the brewers abused him down the stretch. a ton of complete games, a ton of starts on short rest… and what’s so scary about a guy with a career 7.92 postseason era in a short series? another stat for you:
of his 17 wins in 2008.. only 5 were against teams that finished with a record over .500.. 1 of those 5 against the cubs the last weekend when they were playing for absolutely nothing… thank god the mets got the real deal last winter, and for less money.
Allo, I’m sure you’ll be devastated to hear this, but I actually agree with you. CC has tons of red flags, far from a sure thing.
