Now that the NFL is having games every Thursday, I might as well add to my weekly selections by picking these games too. Perfect time to start, as the hometown Jets will be facing the New England in a match-up of the two division leaders in the AFC East. Here it goes:
Jets (+3.5) at Patriots
- My self-imposed ban on picking the Jets has been lifted with the way they’ve played the last two weeks. They’re finally playing good, consistent football en route to their 6-3 record. But the Patriots are also playing well lately, with quarterback Matt Cassel performing admirably in place of the injured Tom Brady. Even though I’m allowed to start picking the Jets again, I’m still not ready to believe in them just yet. They have a tendency to come up short in these games, especially against the Patriots. They had a golden opportunity to take down New England in Week 2, immediately after Brady’s injury, but they fell short. Including the postseason, the Jets are 1-11 against the Patriots in the last 12 games between the two teams, dating back to 2003. The Pats are playing a high level lately, which means I’m sticking with them. I just can’t see the Jets unseating the Patriots this week. Sorry Jet fans, I’ll be rooting for them, but I just don’t see it happening.
Happy Birthday to Buck O’Neil, Steve Bilko, Mel Stottlemyre, Joe Montegna, Chris Noth, Whoopi Goldberg, Vinny Testaverde, Jimmy Kimmel, Steve Zahn, Pat Hentgen and Big Apple native Ron Artest
