Week 8 NFL Picks

Here we go again for another round of NFL picks:

New York Jets: Jets (-12.5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs

  • After last week’s inexplicable loss to the pathetic Raiders, I have lost all faith in the Jets.  Sure, the Chiefs are just as bad, or maybe even worse, than the Raiders, so the Jets should be able to pull this one out.  So I’ll split it, the Jets will win the game, but the Chiefs will cover the spread.

New York Giants: Giantts (+2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers

  • This is what should be the game of the week, a grudge match-up between two teams with one loss.  The Steelers will benefit from home-field advantage, but the Giants are also somehow a better team on the road.  I’m going to pick the Giants here, because I think their defensive line will give the Steelers fits, just like the Eagles did in Week 3 when they sacked Big Ben Roethlisberger 7 times.

Sunday Night

  • No Sunday nighter this week due to Game 4 of thw World Series.  But just for fun, I’ll pick the Phillies anyway.  Oh yeah, and they finally got a hit with runners in scoring position last night.  It was an infield single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.  They had been 0 for the World Series before that.  Somehow, they still have a 2-1 series lead.

Monday Night: Tennessee Titans (-3.5) vs. Indianapolis Colts

  • The Titans are playing at a very high level now, with a perfect 6-0 record.  The defense is clicking on all cylinders and the rushing attack has done well.  The Colts, meanwhile, have yet to get it together.  They’re 3-3, with two of those wins courtesy of awful performances from Minnesota and Houston, where they both snatched defeat from the jaws of victory to give the Colts two wins.  I’m picking the Titans.

Survivor Pick

  • Tough week from a survivor perspective.  The whipping boys of the NFL, the Detroit Lions, are playing the Washington Redskins.  That’s a solid pick for most of you, but since I already suggested the Redskins two weeks ago, I can’t use them again.  Now I move on to the winless Bengals, who take on the Houston Texans.  I think the Texans will win, but I’m not confident enough to recommend them for a survivor pick. Next?  The Kansas City Chiefs, who play the Jets.  I think the Chiefs are awful, but I have absolutely zero confidence in the Jets ability to win games like this.  Even though 35% of Yahoo! users took the Jets this week, there’s no way I’d put my trust in those losers.  That leaves me with the Jacksonville Jaguars defeating the Cleveland Browns.  The jags should be fresh coming off their bye whle the Browns have been dealing with yet anothr Kellen Winslow Jr. caused headache all week.  With the Jags playing at home, I think they are the safest bet in Week 8 for any survivor pool.

Happy Birthday to Primo Carnera, Jack Sharkey, Sid Gilman, Pat Sajak, Big Apple Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mike Hargrove, Rita Wilson, Bob Golic, Cary Elwes, Jesse Armstead, Jon Heder, and Monta “Moped” Ellis
