You Want Him, You Can Have Him

I’m too disgusted to talk about the Yankees right now, so it’s time for me to again pick on my all-time favorite whipping boy: Carl Pavano.  I saw this story on the website of the New York Post:

Could “The Idle” be moving?

Carl “American Idle” Pavano is scheduled to start tomorrow night against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium – unless another team wants him.

The Post has learned Pavano was put on waivers within the last 24 hours and available to be claimed and then traded if the Yankees find a match. They would be wise to see what they could get for Pavano before he leaves via free agency when the Yankees don’t pick up a $13 million option.

With John Maine a strong possibility to be done for the season because of a shoulder problem, the Mets might be interested in Pavano if the Yankees agree to pick up some of the $3.78 million left on the contract. There is approximately $1.83 million remaining this year and a $1.95 million buyout on his contract.

I don’t expect anything to happen on the Pavano front (except of course, another injury), but it would be kind of funny if he ended up on the Mets.  I don’t think I need to bother telling Met fans not to trust this guy one bit.  He’s as reliable as a 1975 Ford Pinto.  But hey, I’ll be thrilled if the Mets take him off our hands.

Happy Birthday to Daniel Stern, Shania Twain, Jason Priestley, Jack Black, Janet Evans, Shane Andrews, Jay Witasick, T.J. Beam, LeAnn Rimes and not one, but two great Yankees: Sweet Lou Piniella and Lousiana Lightnin’ Ron Guidry

  1. Hey, we all know that you can never have enough pitching. Look who you guys have signed and now have floundering around in your system. Victor Zambrano? Eric Milton? If you guys are paying him off and we have to give him the major league minimum, how bad could it be? Remember that Pavano was a hell of a pitcher back in the day with the Marlins. Low risk and high reward, I’d say go for it if it costs us next to nothing.

  2. 99% of the time I’d go along with you and agree, you can’t have too much pitching. Except for the simple fact that Carl Pavano is not a pitcher, he’s a pariah.
