Upon his retirement in March, Brett Favre seemed like a great fit for the cover of the latest installment of the Madden video game franchise. It was a tribute to a retiring legend. It was also a great excuse for EA Sports to avoid talk of the “Madden curse” on another NFLer.
The cover of the game, like the game itself, is produced months in advance and finally will be released on August 12. A picture of it is shown below.
Ummm. Of course as of Wednesday night, this is now an embarrassing inaccuracy, given Favre’s a Jet and there has been a rough divorce between Favre and Green Bay.
In response to the Favre trade, EA Sports offered the following remedy to GamePro.
“We do not plan to re-issue packaging but will offer a free downloadable cover in the coming days on easports.com featuring Brett Favre in a Jets uniform. Fans can print this new cover out and insert it into the case of Madden NFL 09.”
