Jets Allowed to Talk with Favre

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Jets have been given permission by the Green Bay Packers to have conversations with quarterback Brett Favre.

In that same report, Favre has also told Packer GM Ted Thompson he plans to report to Packers training camp.

If the Packers allow Favre to report, this likely means a trade is not too far off, if not already agreed upon inĀ  principle. Along with the Jets, the Buccaneers are also interested in Favre, but have not been given permission to contact him.

While there are no reports discussing this, I gotta think the Packers permission is a sign they are ready to deal Favre..as long as Favre and that team come to an agreement. (Favre has three years remaining on the contract with the Packers if he is reinstated in the league). So a Jets-Favre meeting would be to entice Favre to play in New York and agree on a restructured contract to the one currently in place.

From Green Bay’s point of view, the Jets are an ideal suitor for Favre if he still insist on playing next season, being an AFC team.

More on this story obviously, if it escalates.
