I still think it’s a mistake for the New York Knicks to keep Isiah Thomas in the organization in any capacity, whether it is his current advisory role or if he were selling cotton candy. The guy is a snake, and everything he touches turns to dust. His presence alone brings the franchise down a few notches. But at least the Knicks are handling his presence the right way. According to a report obtained by ESPN, Thomas is banned from contacting players.
According to the report, there is concern that Thomas, if allowed to have any contact with the team, could either willingly or unwillingly undermine its new coach. Thomas acquired all the players on the current Knicks roster as team president.
But the agreement does not prohibit Thomas from speaking to Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, according to the report.
Well I must say that’s a smart move on the Knicks part. (I bet that’s the first time that phrase has been said in about 5 years.) Isiah would absolutely undermine the new coach, and I’m pretty sure he would do it willingly. At least new team President Donnie Walsh is smart enough to recognize this. As far as letting him speak with Dolan, that’s fine with me. Let the two resident morons interact. At least Dolan will have someone around who’s as dumb as he is. That way he won’t feel lonely.
It will be a long, long rebuilding process for the Knicks. You don’t just clean up such a colossal mess with one quick fix. It will be a long, difficult process that will require a lot of patience from the people in New York. But at least they’re taking some proper measures, and banning Isiah from speaking to players is certainly a good one. However, the best step would be to get rid of him altogether.
