Is He Serious?

I must say, I give the general public a lot of DAP.  The big story around the New York Knicks this week has been the unofficial hiring of Donnie Walsh as team president.  While Walsh is not officially with the Knicks just yet, media outlets such as ESPN are reporting on the story like it’s a lock to happen.  That means that current Knicks president/coach/pariah Isiah Thomas will be gone after the worst four years since the Dinkins administration.

Upon hearing the news of Walsh’s hiring/Isiah’s ouster, I would expect Knicks fans to pour into the street and start singing “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”  But there was very little jubilation surrounding the news about Walsh.  Was it because Knicks fans would be sad to see Thomas go?  Please.  No, it’s because Knick fans know that no matter who their team president is, James Dolan is still the owner.  And as long as James Dolan is in charge of the New York Knicks, things are unlikely to ever improve.  That’s why the general public gets DAP for not reacting so positively, because they know that even when Dolan actually does the right thing (like finally canning Isiah), he still manages to screw it up.  ESPN is reporting today that Dolan prefers to keep Isiah as the coach.  Is he serious?  While Isiah isn’t as bad of a coach as he is team president (frankly though, that’s impossible) this guy needs to go.  The Knicks absolutely have to cut all ties with Isiah Thomas, whether it is as team president, head coach, consultant or even a hot dog vendor!

Luckily I am not a Knicks fan, so it makes no difference to me whether Isiah Thomas stays or goes.  Actually, as someone who enjoys the comedy hour that is the New York Knicks, I kind of hope he stays.  But if I were Donnie Walsh, I would adamantly put my foot down on this one.  I’d make it clear to Dolan: I’m only coming if this guy is out completely.  I wouldn’t put it past Thomas to undermine Walsh’s authority for his own benefit.  I cannot stress enough that Isiah Thomas is a parasite.  You cannot just cut of its head, because it will grow back.  You need to completely rid yourself of the parasite, because that is the only way you can ever be restored to full health.

Happy Birthday to Miller Huggins, Michael York, Randall Cunningham, Quentin Tarantino, Mariah Carey, Fergie and Michael Cuddyer.
