According to the NY Daily News, Kiki Vandeweghe, currently an assistant to GM Rod Thorn of the Nets, is at the top of James Dolan’s list to replace Isiah Thomas as President of the New York Knicks. The News also reports that there have already been discussions with Vandeweghe about making this a reality. The only stipulation? Kiki might have to keep Isiah Thomas on as Head Coach. Dolan is still seen as incredibly loyal to the bemoaned Thomas.
Ok, honestly, this just goes to show how idiotic Jim Dolan really is. He takes a step forward, establishing a few candidates who could easily right the Knicks’ ship, and then stipulates that the Knicks are going to keep Isiah in the fold, when the entire team has basically turned on him. I think Kiki would be a fantastic move for the Knicks, as someone who knows what it is like to play at the Garden, as well as how to handle the pressures of New York. He also has turning the Denver Nuggets around from obscurity on his resume. But by maintaining that Isiah stays on, Dolan is essentially eliminating top candidates such as Jerry Colangello and Jerry West, mainly because they wouldn’t stand for Dolan to be making any calls that would undermine their authority. Does the three-ring circus ever end?
