If you liked the Johan Santana sweepstakes but didn’t enjoy how long it was strung out, this is the trade rumor for you…
A few days ago, Nets point guard Jason Kidd and his agent requested a trade, preferably to a championship contender. Nets management, who have grown tired of Kidd and his negative attitude, are determined to meet his demands.
Trading Kidd to a contender however presents problems for the Nets-who would be looking at this trade as a springboard for an expedient rebuilding process. As I wrote two days ago,
“It would be foolish to simply acquire expiring contracts as was mentioned in a rumored Dallas Mavericks trade (Devean George, Desagana Diop and Jerry Stackhouse plus picks). The Nets have never been big players in the free agent market and without Kidd, their chances at alluring any attractive stars would be diminished.”
The Nets are apparently finding creative ways to trade Kidd to a contender and still acquire young talent. The latest rumor is a three way trade between the Nets, Mavericks, and Trail Blazers.
The proposed deal:
Dallas Mavericks get:
Jason Kidd (from NJ)
Portland Trail Blazers get:
Devin Harris (from Dal)
Brandon Bass (from Dal)
New Jersey Nets get:
Jerry Stackhouse (from Dal)
Jarret Jack (from POR)
Channing Frye (from POR)
Travis Outlaw (from POR)
+ draft and financial considerations
Seems like a good deal for the Nets… The NBA trade deadline is February 22.
